What does Shock WaveTherapy Treat?

As mentioned it is for Chronic pain that has been resistant to improving using a range of other therapies. Some examples we can treat are the following:

Knee: Patellar tendonitis
Lower leg: Splints and tightened calves
Feet: Heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis

How does Shock Wave work?

Shockwave is an acoustic wave which carries high energy to painful spots and myoskeletal tissues with subacute, subchronic and chronic conditions.  The energy promotes regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues.

What is involved in treatment ?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment. Treatment can be provided in a standarrd 20 minute appointment. The application is simple and easy and done in 3 steps.

1.The podiatrist will locate the area to be treated using palpation in order to deliver the therapy precisely.
2.Gel will be applied to the area to help transfer the acoustic waves efficiently and smoothly.
3.The shockwave applicator is slightly pushed against the area to be treated and the start button is pressed.

We have found that having a weekly treatment for a period of 6-8 weeks is optimum in re-starting the healing process.  Of course, if you respond really well, not all treatments may be needed.

Does it hurt?   The answer is NO! This is a non-invasive therapy that simulates the body’s intrinsic repair mechanisms to restore normal tissue and heal injured tissue. Besides, there’s no need for local anesthetic, and most of our patients described it as a “mild sensation”.

Studies say that Shock Wave Therapy has 90-95% satisfaction! If it is an option you havent explored for Chronic pain it may be worth considering.
